Kong director hopes a unique CGI hybrid animation could blend together the hyper realism of a live-action and the original aesthetic of the cartoon series. In an interview with Den of Geek, Wingard explained that he wants the ThunderCats reboot to feel like an '80s cartoon adventure that adults and kids alike can relate to. Moving away from the live-action appearance of Cats, the Godzilla vs. Though there hasn't been much detail on the story, Wingard has said that he intends to stay true to the classic ThunderCats, both in mythology and aesthetic. Kong director had written a 272-page-long screenplay of a ThunderCats film in the 10th grade, so Wingard describes ThunderCats as a "dream project." Animation (WBA) is reimagining the 1980s animated action classic in an all-new animated series combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes. A script had already existed for ThunderCats before Wingard signed on to the project, written by David Coggeshall, but writing a ThunderCats script has been a life-long passion for Wingard. It just remains to be seen what the companies want to do with the reboot, and whether audiences who didn’t buy the SilverHawks toys and tune into the show back in 1986 are ready to love it now.So far, there hasn't been much information on what a ThunderCats story could look like - that's because Wingard and his writing partner Simon Barrett have taken on a complete script rewrite. It seemed just as much an echo of Japanese series like Voltron and Space Battleship Yamato (or Star Blazers in America) as its own unique world.īut that lack of a strong and detailed setting gives Nacelle and Super7 a lot of room to work in terms of updating the series for a more modern audience - there are plenty of intriguingly drawn characters, like the non-verbal alien mime elf Copper Kidd, who could finally get more of a backstory and a world to fit into. The film written by Meg Turner finds a young Abigale Archer friendless and alone in a brutal Montana winter during the 1870sfighting for survival and to retrieve her one earthly possession, her family’s horse, from a gang of bloodthirsty bandits. The original 1980s ThunderCats had a strong backbone in its core Egyptian theme: The villain is a mummy who lives in a pyramid, the heroes are cat-people, and the subsidiary villains are humanoid versions of animals that feature prominently in Egyptian mythology, including jackals, crocodiles, vultures, and monkeys. The following is a list of characters that appear in the American animated series ThunderCats, its 2011 reboot, ThunderCats Roar, and its related media. Where the original show took its alien battles and. Contrary to the original series, the ThunderCats reboot is way darker, and it attempts to make more complex characters. ThunderCats Roar is Cartoon Network’s reboot of the classic 1980s sword-and-sorcery animated series featuring feline humanoid aliens. SilverHawks centers on a group of cyborg space cops, “partly metal, partly real,” fighting the transforming alien mob boss called Mon*Star. It could also serve to build a more compelling and fully realized world around what was initially a fairly shallow setup. But just as the 2011 ThunderCats reboot elaborated on the original series’ fantasy setting and added intrigue and deeper character relationships and motivations, a modern SilverHawks reboot has a lot of potential.
